Totem Pole-idea a cross between a North American totem and Easter Island Heads

Design carved in local stone is  the 1st step
I start by roughing out the design

Totem with bottles behind is fun

I've started using a new power tool that almost whittles the wood, giving me a lot more control, as pine tends to split if you use traditional hammer and chisel.

painting from the figure any figure

"The Artist Model Has Grubby Feet"
the title is a reminder that things are rarely perfect; a beautiful model with dirty feet and parts of the painting may appear sketchy, Yet it is complete)
painted 6/4/13 acrylic on canvas 100 x 100 cm
I'm concidering puting this one into the Leamington Open
influenced by Pre Raphaelites romance and the wonderful linear style of the Art Nouveau posters
I feel I've moved on a thousand miles in a month
I've been painting the figure from life, obsessed with depicting  skin

yet not possible without the discirplin of painting at trinity 5-10 hours a week for the last three years
painting anything and everything

Not Pretty 3 Acrylic on paper 29/3/13
a portrait of Jac my friend and wild life illustrator
during a nasty bout of shingles effecting the optic nerve,
potentially devastating for an artist

The Jenny Saville book  my daughter bought me for Xmas
has helped me start my "Not Pretty" series I've been thinking about for a while
Thanks Julia

Not Pretty 1 Oil on canvas 17/3/13
portrait of my friend with MS, again potentially devastating
illness. Lucian Freud inspired

Preparing for Exhibition Pastelaria Portuguesa, 57 Coten End, Warwick CV34 4NU 31st March-11th May

Preparing work for a show is a hassle but I find it more than worthwhile as it focuses the mind. Allowing you to complete a body of work, and move on artistically refreshed.
Here are a few I'm considering
Sunset 2013 oil on canvas £175
Atmospheric landscape, with dramatic colour; using colour theory

Geese 2006 acrylic on canvas £195
These two geese are a common sight on the Grand Union Canal  Leamington. a dedicated same sex couple living happily since escaping from a local farm

Light through trees 2010 acrylic on canvas £245
inspired by a walk on Leek Wotton golf course

Glorious Mud 2011 acrylic on canvas £245
happy childhood memories come to mind when watching a friends youngest  play near Saxonmill

Jackie Entertains 2012 acrylic on canvas £195 after drawing Jackie James performing many times, this painting  is an attempt to capture her unique talent
