DOLLY THE SHEEP by Dorothy Biddle

dolly the sheep has settled into my front garden

she's getting to kno the locals

someone has kindly given her a drink

hope it doesn't rot her teeth 2 much!

I'll have to bring dolly in soon and give her some form of weather proofing
What I loved about Dorothy is, instead of retiring and settling down to a conventional old age,
she went and got herself a fine art degree

Dorothy was a well known local artist who sadly died a couple of years ago
a member of a local groups; UK Artists Limited, the edge

 and occasionally exhibited for warwickshireopenstudios

New Idea start; ritualising parts of my life I struggle with

Note tree,
inspired by my need to keep track of so many bits of paper

Being dyslexic, I keep hold of everything, remembering the colour or design
but not always understanding the written content properly
I am also in the process of creating little gift boxes of emotional baggage

offerings; night rituals

My garden has developed into an instillation about religious rituals

At night I light candles in offering bowls round my totem pole

first discarding old candles and water
memories of being aloud to light a candle in church
as a very young child

A candle in memory of the dead, the lovers, family, for wisdom, peace and justice
each time I do this it means more

Sketching people

I find drawing people in pubs is very relaxing
musicians are good subjects they tend to stand fairly still or keep returning to certain poses

I started drawing a lot in pubs because I was using the pencil/pen as a cigarette substitute  8 or 9 years ago
II have drawn a lot of people since then

sorry JucyLucy never got round to sending

Russian dolls

I've been back in my studio,
its been so long since I've spent any real time there.

I've been working on mother&child theme (again)
exploring the use of the same approx shape just varying the size and materials

Quite by chance, I lined them up like Russian dolls
Hum.. me thinks this could be an interesting tangent
I love it when the work takes over & I have no idea how it will develop!

Open Studio success

After the success of Open Studios, I will spend most of this summer in and around my front garden, improving and developing it.
Thank you all for your support so far.

I can see you

I have a confession to make,
I am an obsessive compulsive Artist
Also, I am quite deaf and can't lip-read very well,
I don't have much memory for names and faces
However; I do have a great memory for conversations,
If you see me in my garden, do say hello,
If you give me so notice I will be able to display more of my sculptures.

what do you think of the show so far?..........
Art and religion have always gone hand in hand,
My first insalation; Degree show 1986 Exeter College of Art and Design was based on my father's (Micheal Godwin) two passions, Catholisium and his Dairy Spares business.
It conisted of a large shine made out of 5000 milk bottles and a gate way made from the crates.

Drawing world wide religous inflences
I call this "Offerings"
But my obsession with bottles started long before then.
by the age of 10, I was an accomplised bottle digger/collector

Last night I started experimenting with Tee lights in some of the containers.
(note to Warks council the lights are safely placed and attended at all times)
