The latest carving by Helena is in walnut, a lovely wood with a pronounced grain.
This piece explores a water/wave theme again using beautiful curves enhanced by the grain.

I haven't blogged for over a year now and it being new years eve one of my more doable resolutions is to blog regularly.
First a quick catch up;
two and a half years after I am just starting to be able to talk about a major event in my and the work I produced at that time.
This collage was an attempt to express my experience of mental health six months after being sectioned.

Self portrait Dec 2015- Jan 16 |
Using a selection of drawn and printed images and text I was hoping to express the frustration and confusion related to a bipolar diagnosis. I felt like just another statistic held against my will for a month in St Micheal's Hospital. Drugs were good though I'm still trying to slowly reduce the dose.
I felt they offered nothing more of use.
When incarcerated I need creative things to do and every thing I tried was met with incomprehension and disapproval as it got in the way of the wards routine. I started using collage tearing paper as I was not allowed scissors. It was a constant fight to get the art/recreation room and the cupboard containing basic materials open
