Amazing stone; white alabaster

 this piece is about travelling by boat to Shetland, watching dolphins and porpoises from the deck

White alabaster disc appears to glow giving an a candle light feel.

The fact that the alabaster is translucent means the shadows are greatly reduced
this means the carving & 3D shapes have to be simple but shit hot or it doesn't show its full potential.

this disc is beautifully cut wedge. Designed to rock and return to up right.
I bought the stone not quite knowing what I wanted to do with it.

disc is giving me a mental workout, as Its so different to other stone I've tried.

But I think I'm getting the hang of it.

The stone is very soft compared to the Portland stone.
you have to be careful you don't take away too much
